Ukrainian Vitaly Klitschko has retained his WBC heavyweight title after defeating Polish challenger Tomasz Adamek by a technical knockout in front of 42,000 fans at the Miejski Stadium in Wroclaw.
Referee Massimo Barrovecchio stepped in late in the 10th round to stop Klitschko’s major assault on Adamek.
The 40-year-old Klitschko was 15 centimeters taller and 15 kilograms heavier than his opponent and used his size advantage to reduce Adamek’s offensive capability.
The Ukrainian knocked Adamek down three times: in the second, sixth and ninth rounds, but every time the referee allowed the bout to continue.
Klitschko slipped in the eighth, but upped the tempo in the ninth and tenth to improve his record to 43 wins, including 40 knockouts and two losses.
