Warehouses with pyrotechnics explode near Turkmenistan’s capital

ASHGABAT, July 8 (Itar-Tass) — A series of explosions occurred Thursday at special warehouses for pyrotechnical equipment near the town of Abadan, 20 kilometers away from Ashgabat, the press service of the Turkmenistani Foreign Ministry said.

In connection with the emergency situation, President Gurganguly Berdimuhammedow convened an urgent meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers and the State Council for Security.

“The blaze at the warehouses was caused by an especially hot weather that set in here several days ago,” the press release said.

The heads of defense and emergency situations departments reported to Berdimuhammedow on the urgent measures that have been taken to eliminate the consequences of the situation.

“There are no victims or major destructions,” the Foreign Ministry said. “The population is getting the necessary medical assistance.”

A part of the population, whose houses are located in the immediate vicinity of the storage facility, has been evacuated to safe places.
