MOSCOW, August 28 (Itar-Tass) —— Emergency services blocked places of water surges from the Sunzha River in Grozny on Saturday night. The inundation was stopped in the area in Grozny’s Oktysbrsky district, where hundreds of houses were flooded after a river dike broke, the Russian Emergencies Ministry’s press service in the Chechen Republic reported on Sunday.
The situation is under control. The emergency services that worked at the site throughout the day blocked five places, across which the water from the overflowing river had flooded houses in Grozny. The water is blocked, the head of the Emergencies Ministry’s department in Chechnya, Ruslan Yakhyayev, said.
Nobody was hurt. Damage from the flood will be estimated after the emergency work is completed.
The dike on the Sunzha River broke because of heavy rains and water rise.
About 2,500 people were evacuated from the flooded zone.
