Russian police temporarily detained six activists protesting on Friday against the incarceration of members of the punk rock band Pussy Riot and charged them with holding a demonstration of more than one person without a permit. In front of the Federal Penitentiary Service building, activists, actors and writers took turns holding posters demanding freedom for the jailed musicians, Maria Alyokhina, 24, and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 23. According to Russian media reports, the police made the arrests when more than one person at a time held the posters. The six were charged with administrative misdemeanors, released and handed orders for court hearings on Monday.
