Zenit and Spartak claim easy home wins

In the Russian Premier League, three games were scheduled to round up the second weekend of action on Monday, but inclement weather shortened that to two.

Krylya Sovetov’s home game with CSKA Moscow was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. Constant snow over the weekend in Samara ended any hopes of play.

Zenit 2-0 Anzhi

Zenit joined Rubin atop the league following a 2-0 win over Roberto Carlos and his Anzhi teammates.

The game was done in the first half after Roman Shirokov and Danko Lazovic found the net in the 6th and 45th minutes, respectively.

Spartak Moscow 1-0 Volga

Spartak Moscow have bounced back from their shock opening defeat to Rostov last weekend with a 1-0 win over newcomers Volga Nizhny Novgorod.

The Premier League’s top goalscorer the last two years, Welliton, sealed the game for the Muscovites, who had to do without two leaders, captain Alex and right winger Aiden McGeady.
