Zenit, CSKA boast ahead of crucial Champions League clashes

In the Russian Premier League Zenit stay on top of the table after an easy 4-0 thrashing of Tom at the Petrovsky stadium, while CSKA restored two-point deficit from the St Petersburg side breezing through Volga, 3-1.

Viktor Faizulin needed only four minutes to open the scoring for Zenit, and 20 minutes later Roman Shirokov made it 2-0 after the pass from Domenico Criscito.

Aleksandr Kerzhakov made it 3-0 just before half-time. And early in the second half he added another for his 15th goal of the season to finalize a good win for Luciano Spalletti’s side, who face FC Porto in the champions league on Wednesday.

CSKA 3-1 Volga

CSKA had a confidence-boosting win ahead of their Champions League showdown with Inter beating 10-man Volga.

Dumbia scored for the Army Men early on.

Volga managed an equalizer shortly afterwards through Shota Bibilov. However, they were down to 10-men when Inal Getigezhev was sent off after a second yellow card.

And CSKA took advantage. Alan Dzagoev made it 2-1 before Sergey Ignashevich scored from the spot to make sure CSKA reclaimed second spot on the ladder.
