At least 55 people have died in Syria since the outbreak of anti-government protests, reports Amnesty International. Security forces opened fire Friday on protesters in the city Sanamein and conducted round-ups and arrests in Damascus.
The day before, authorities promised to investigate cases of violence and ordered security forces not to open fire on demonstrators.
Protests in Syria began about a week ago in Deraa, in the country’s south. On Friday, anti-government demonstrations were held in several other cities in the country, including in Sanamein and Homs.
