The situation at the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant is not deteriorating, but efforts should continue to be made to do away with the consequences of the accident, says the general secretary of the Japanese Government Yukio Edano. According to the official, attempts continue to be made to pump radioactive water from power generating units. Water radiation levels there are 10,000 times above normal. Meanwhile the content of radioactive iodine in the sea water within 30 kilometres of the nuclear power plant is 1,250 times above normal. According to Japan’s Nuclear Safety Agency, radioactive substance concentrations in the sea are not high enough to ban fishing.
