Hotel fire kills 10, injures 35 people in north-east China

A fire that broke out on Sunday in a hotel in north-east China killed ten and injured another 35 people, the Chinese news agency Xinhua reported.

The fire broke out at about 3:30 a.m. local time at Home Inns, one of the country’s largest hotel chains, in Dongchang District of Tonghua city in the Jilin province, the agency reported, referring to local authorities.

Initial investigation has found the fire started at the stair hall, which then sent heavy smokes up the floors. The ten persons were choked to death, the agency reported.

The 35 injured have been sent to hospital for emergency treatment.

Further investigation is underway, the agency said.
