Indonesian Air Force Plane Crash Kills Nine

Nine people were killed and at least 35 injured as an Indonesian Air Force Fokker F27 transport aircraft crashed into a residential area while on approach to Bali’s Halim Perdanaksuma Airport on Thursday, local media reported.

More than ten fire engines sped to the scene of the crash where a major fire broke out.

Indonesian Air Force spokesman Azman Yunus told the VIVAnews portal that six out of seven servicemen on board died, adding that the second pilot was in intensive care.

Two adults and a child died in houses which the plane hit, Indonesian armed forces spokesman Iskandar Sitompul told the Detik.com news portal.

According to VIVAnews, at least 35 injured residents of the nearby residential compound were brought to local hospitals.

The Dutch-made Fokker F27 planes, designed in the mid-1950s, can carry up to 56 passengers.
