Moscow police officer faces rap after pregnant driver row

A Moscow traffic police officer at the center of a dispute involving a pregnant driver and a VIP vehicle is to face disciplinary action, a police spokesman said on Wednesday.

On July 15, Ksenia Nozdracheva was driving her Toyota on Kutuzovsky Prospect out of Moscow. She got stuck in a traffic jam and failed to give way to a convoy consisting of a black Mercedes and a police car with its flashing lights on.

It has not been revealed who the VIP in the Mercedes was.

The police car was finally able to pull ahead and stopped the car, after which a policeman approached Nozdracheva’s car and attempted to confiscate her driver’s license. The woman locked the doors of the car and called her husband, Alexander, to the scene for support.

He arrived 10 minutes later and tried to approach his wife’s car. But the policeman pointed a gun at him. The conflict heated up as other police cars arrived at the scene.

The incident caused a huge stir on the Russian internet. Russia’s State Automobile Inspectorate has said it will fine Nozdracheva.
