U.S. gives Tunisia $20 million

The
U.S. has given Tunisia $ 20 million to support democratic reforms according to an announcement by the
US State Department.

The
money will be used to assist in the preparation of a new constitution,
strengthening political parties and civil society, the establishment of
professional and independent media, promoting economic reforms, and the
formation on the conditions needed for holding free and fair elections.

During
a recent visit to Tunisia Secretary of State Hillary Clinton promised the
leadership of the country support from the U.S. in strengthening democratic
institutions.
