Wife’s Night in Doghouse Gets Husband Jail

A man from Russia’s Penza region has been sentenced to ten months jail after he locked his wife in a dog pen overnight after a domestic row, the local prosecutor’s office said on Friday.

“Vladimir Manaev took his wife into the yard after an argument in August 2010, chained her up in a porch where the dog was kept and left her there,” said Penza Region chief prosecutor’s assistant Yulia Makarova.

The woman spent the night locked up in the pen but managed to free herself in the morning, when she called the police.

Manaev pleaded guilty to an unlawful imprisonment charge at a hearing on May 16. He will also have to pay his wife compensation of 10,000 rubles ($322).
