At least one person died and 94 people went missing after a cruise ship sank on Russia’s Volga River, the regional emergencies center said on Sunday.
“Seventy-eight people have been rescued by the passing ship Arabella. One woman died,” the emergencies center said.
The double-deck cruise ship Bulgaria, en route from the Tatar town of Bolgar to Kazan, was carrying 173 people, including 140 passengers and 33 crewmembers, the regional emergencies center said.
The ship sank at 13:58 Moscow time (09:58 GMT) on Sunday near the village of Syukeyevo in the Kansko-Ustinovsky district of the Republic of Tatarstan.
A helicopter and two rescue boats are currently working on the scene of the incident.
