Russia’s ban on Moldovan wine imports will not extend to good quality batches, Russia’s chief sanitary official said.
“The process is ongoing. There will not be a complete ban, just a control [on imports],” Gennady Onishchenko said. “Bad wine will be sent back to Moldova, and good wine will be sold in Russia’s shops,” he said.
Onishchenko said that talks with Moldova had been halted because the ex-Soviet state had stopped controlling its production standards.
He earlier said that dangerous ingredients had been found in 18 batches of Moldovan wine from June 30 – July 2, 2010.
