SUKHUM, August 8 (Itar-Tass) —— Acting president of Abkhazia Nugzar Ashuba has declared in a letter addressed to President of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoity that the culprits responsible for the August 2008 tragedy in South Ossetia will be punished by the court of history, the acting president said in connection with the third anniversary since the tragic developments in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008.
“On the day of the tragic anniversary we bow our head to express our sorrow and our memory of the brave sons of South Ossetia who selflessly rose to fight the enemy and defend their Fatherland. Beyond doubt all those responsible for the tragedy, which claimed hundreds of lives of innocent people and the Russian peacekeepers, will be condemned by people and punished by the court of history,” Ashuba said in the letter.
Historically, the people of Abkhazia and South Ossetia have been together at moments of joy and sorrow. Today, our task is to continue what has already been done together in the interests of our people. Today, conditions for the development of independent South Ossetia are being created, and the foundations are being laid for its stable social and economic development, Ashuba said in his letter.
He reiterated Abkhazia’s support to the people of South Ossetia in all its initiatives and wished peace, prosperity, cordiality and mutual understanding to all. “ Let the banners of freedom and victory always fly above South Ossetia,” he said in the letter.
Nugzar Ashuba also sent a letter to Chairman of the parliament of South Ossetia Stanislav Kocheyev in which Ashuba expressed sincere support on behalf of the People’s Assembly of Abkhazia.
