Al Jazeera demands information from Syria on missing journalist

Al Jazeera news agency has demanded information from Syria on the whereabouts of missing journalist Dorothy Parvaz.

Parvaz, who holds Iranian, U.S. and Canadian nationality, went missing after she travelled to Damascus on April 29 to report on the continuing unrest in the country.

“We are concerned for Dorothy’s safety and well being,” Al Jazeera said. “We are requesting full cooperation from the Syrian authorities to determine how she was processed at the airport and what her current location is. We want her returned to us immediately.”

Parvaz’s family claim she is being held by the Syrian government.

Iranian foreign minister Ali Akbar Salehi called on Monday for Syria to look into the case.

“I hope that it is not true, but if that is the case, then we demand the Syrian government look into this,” Salehi said, when asked what Iran would do to secure Parvaz’s release.
