Team Russia, who are due to play in Poland and Ukraine at Euro 2012, have had a significant boost from … Outer Space. On Wednesday, ISS space flight participant Sergey Volkov swanked around his duty station in the new team Russia jersey.
The move was part of a high-profile drive to publicize the team’s sumptuous new kit. In an emotional address to Dick Advocaat’s charges, the Russian cosmonaut wished the team the very best on the Ukrainian and Polish pitches.
This was the first time a jersey of the Russian national football team has been spotted in the Earth’s orbit.
As for Arshavin and Co. themselves, they will sport the new kit for the first time on Friday November 11, in a friendly game against Greece in Athens, while the strip will be available in stores a day before the game.
Team Russia progressed to the European Championships directly after winning their qualifying Group B. They will know their next opponents on December 2, when a draw is held in Kiev.
