Expat musicians muse over Moscow rhythm

A trio of international musicians has teamed up to record a fusion album dedicated to the Russian capital. RT did not miss the chance to catch up with the band’s drummer, Damien Schmitt.

The Impact Fuze project was set up by three musicians from France, Uzbekistan, and Russia. Coming from such different backgrounds, they thought it was a good idea to record their perception of the city that united them.

“I’ve never been in Moscow until the guys invited me to join the band,” Schmitt told RT. “When I came, it was exciting. We all played music and shared ideas. This was when we decided to record an album.”

Differing mentalities between the musicians turned out to be inspiring when it came to music.

“When we recorded the album, there was a lot of energy,” Schmitt told RT. “Each of us brought in his own vision of Moscow. It’s a massive album.”

Both Russian musicians and music fans made a deep impression on Schmitt.

“It was amazing to see the Russian guys play,” Schmitt said. “And the audience is Russia is sometimes more receptive than audiences around the world.”

Impact Fuze’s Moscow concert takes place on November 17th in the Music Town club.
