In Japan, the cooling system of the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant second reactor has ground to a halt, with the liquid level steadily dropping. This comes in a report by the Reuters news agency with reference to the Jiji Japanese news agency. Blasts were earlier reported at the first and third power-generating units of that nuclear power plant, which was damaged by an unprecedented earthquake last Friday. Underground shocks brought about a more than 10-metre high tidal wave. Both the quake and the wave destroyed many cities and built-up areas in the north of Japan. The number of dead and missing exceeds 4,500. But the figure will most likely grow many times over.
