Gaddafi-camp compromise may be offered

With Gaddafi forces being routed in some parts of Libya, a stalemate solution is likely to be offered by Moamar Gaddafi.

There have been signs the Libyan government may be willing to launch a compromise.

However, the government is also likely to insist that Mr Gaddafi be allowed to stay on as the country’s leader.

Libyan government politicians have suggested the Libyan people should decide whether the leader should stay or go and if a different political system should emerge.

They have said the people fear another situation like that in Iraq, Somalia or Afghanistan.

President Gaddafi has already sent envoys to Greece, Malta, Turkey and Italy to help find a diplomatic solution.

But Italy has already recognised the rebels as being representative of the Libyan people.
