Renowned Hollywood actress Elizabeth Taylor has died at the age of 79, ABC television said on Wednesday.
A two-time Oscar winner, Taylor starred in Cleopatra (1963), Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958), and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf? (1966).
Taylor quit her movie career 20 years ago and was an active supporter of anti-AIDS campaigns.
Last month, Taylor was hospitalized in Los Angeles with heart failure, which eventually caused her death.
Taylor began suffering poor health in the 1990s, including cancer, and underwent heart surgery shortly after her close friend Michael Jackson died in 2009.
Last year, Hollywood filmmakers began talking about shooting a biography about Taylor based on her romance with Hollywood celebrity Richard Burton, in which Angelina Jolie or Catherine Zeta-Jones would play the leading role of Liz Taylor.
