Howard Davies winds Best Director for “The White Guard” after Mikhail Bulgakov’s eponymous work, Sunday, at the Laurence Olivier Awards, Britain’s top stage accolades. The play also won in categories “Set design” and “Lighting design”.
“Best Actress” – went to Nancy Carroll for her part in Terence Rattigan’s “After the Dance”, while the production itself went on to claim “Best musical revival.”
“Best Actor” went to Roger Allam for his role in “Henry IV, Parts 1 and 2” at the Globe Theatre. Best new musical was “Legally Blonde” – a Savoy Theatre production. Lead cast Sheridan Smith was accordingly named best musical actress.
Presented annually by the Society of London Theatre, the event’s winners are chosen by a panel of industry professionals and members of the public.
