An attempt to hold a flashmob by loading a fountain with two tons of oranges in the Urals was cut short by the crowd, which devoured most fruit before it reached the water, local media reported.
The flashmob was part of the Red Festival honoring all things red and orange, including cats, fall leaves and human redheads, who are said to abound in the city of Izhevsk, which holds the annual event since 2004.
The public was meant to collect the oranges after they were loaded into the fountain and photographed, but chose not to wait, Izlife.ru said on Saturday.
People stormed the fruit-carrying truck upon its arrival, stocking bags, backpacks and even carton boxes full of oranges, the report said. Some fruits made it to the water, but were immediately fished out by locals, according to photos from the site.
Another flashmob, the Pumpkin Pyramid, was set to take place by the fountain at the same time, with locals invited to contribute their own pumpkins. It remained immediately unclear whether any vegetables were similarly ravaged during the making of the pyramid.
