Militants Killed in Shootout Had Prepared Terrorist Attacks

A group of three militants killed by police in Russia’s North Caucasus republic of Kabardino-Balkaria were preparing terrorist attacks in crowded places and against heads of law enforcement agencies in the region, Russia’s Anti-Terrorism Committee reported on Friday.

Law enforcement officials were involved in a gunfight with the group on Friday after the gunmen threw a grenade after the police tried to check their car.

“After an attempt to stop their car, the militants gave armed resistance and were eliminated in return fire ,” the committee said.

“According to FSB data, the group of militants was preparing terrorist attacks in crowded places and against heads of law enforcement agencies in the region,” the Anti-Terrorism Committee said.

The identities of the three militants are known to the police but were not revealed.

“The militants killed were involved in a number of terrorism-related crimes and attacks on police officers,” the committee said.
