Missing An-12 crashed, all people died

MAGADAN, August 9 (Itar-Tass) —— A transport An-12, which had disappeared earlier on Tuesday from radars, crashed 200 kilometres of the Omsukchan settlement, the Far East’s transport prosecutors report.

“According to the preliminary information, nine members of the crew and two people accompanying the cargo died,” the source said.

The An-12 transport plane made a flight from Komsomolsk-on-Amur to Chukotka’s settlement of Keperveyem and disappeared from controllers’ screens. After refueling in Magadan, at 16:39 local time the crew reported a fuel leak and fire of the right engine. The crew reported the decision to return to Magadan, but then connection with the plane cut off. Some time later, the plane’s emergency beacon was spotted near the Omsukchan settlement, but disappeared soon.

“The plane may have landed in emergency 50 kilometres of Omsukchan, or 310 kilometres of Magadan,” press service of Kolyma’s administration said.

Pre-investigation check continues.
