Moscow airport challenges new anti-terrorist measures

Domodedovo airport is asking the Higher Commercial Court to revoke new safety regulations.

These require airports and other large transportation hubs to take more responsibility for onsite security.

The Ministry of Transportation introduced the law after a terrorist attack at Domodedovo killed 35 earlier this year.

Airports are now responsible for spotting and detaining possible terrorists. They are also expected to remove potentially dangerous substances or devices.

Lawyers point out that under the Constitution, only law enforcement officers can detain people. Airport authorities agree, saying it is the police who should be responsible for making arrests.
