No Grain Export Ban Debate

At a briefing following the Cabinet session Thursday, Agriculture Minister Yelena Skrynnik told reporters that “the government is not currently discussing whether and when the grain export ban will be lifted.”

The grain export ban was introduced after the worst drought in half a century curbed the country’s grain output and impacted cattle breeding.

Skrynnik said it was reasonable to expect 85 million tons of grain in 2011, compared with 97 million tons in 2009-10 and 108 million in 2008-09.
