A Moscow court has found two Russian nationalists guilty of killing a prominent human rights lawyer and a reporter who were shot dead in central Moscow last year.
The jury at the Moscow City Court convicted Nikita Tikhonov and his girlfriend Yevgenia Khasis in the January 2009 murders.
Investigators said Tikhonov did the shooting, while Khasis followed the two victims — Stanislav Markelov and Anastasia Baburova — as they left a news conference and walked toward a nearby subway station.
Markelov was a lawyer whose work had angered nationalists. Baburova was journalist for “Novaya Gazeta.”
