Russian ‘Robin Hood’ Official Jailed Over Bribery

A former village council head in the Siberian region of Krasnoyarsk has been sentenced to nine years in jail after being found guilty of accepting a bribe, officials said.

Alexander Miller, the former head of the Yesaylovo village, was convicted of accepting nearly five million rubles ($153,000) for helping arrange property deals, regional prosecutors said.

Speaking at court hearing ahead of the verdict on Saturday, Miller admitted taking bribes, but said it was part of his efforts to “redistribute money between the rich and the poor” and likened himself to the British folk hero Robin Hood.
