Two Militants Killed in North Caucasus

Two suspected militants have been killed in the restive North Caucasus republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, following an attack in which a security officer died.

Federal Security Service officer died in hospital, where he was taken after his car was blown up late on Saturday.

Security officials in the region are frequent targets of Islamist militants who seek independence from Moscow.

Police said they later tracked down three men suspected of carrying out the attack, two of whom were killed in the ensuing gunfight. Their identity could not be known.

The third suspect remains at large.
