S.Korea deploys rocket launchers at Yellow Sea islands

South Korea has deployed Kuryong multiple rocket launchers on two islands near the border with North Korea to guard against a possible attack from the reclusive communist regime, the Yonhap news agency quoted a government source as saying Monday.

The source said a few launchers were recently installed on Baengnyeong and Yeonpyeong islands.

Tensions between the two Koreas have been high since Pyongyang shelled the South’s Yeonpyeong Island last November, killing four people. The incident came months after international investigators blamed North Korea for sinking a South Korean warship.

North and South Korea remain technically at war, since no peace treaty was signed following the Korean War in 1953. The Demilitarized Zone between the countries is the most heavily armed border in the world.
