Tajikistan to stay strategic partner, ally of Russia

DUSHANBE, September 2 (Itar-Tass) —— Tajikistan has been and will be a strategic partner and ally of Russia, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said with certrainty after talks with Tajik counterpart Emomali Rakhmonov in Dushanbe on Friday.

He said they had discussed a wide range of bilateral issues and exchanged views on the situation in Central Asia and reviewed current international issues.

“Tajikistan has always been and will be our strategic ally and partner in all matters,” said Medvedev.

There was “a substantial discussion of various issues related to security, the security of our country, and security of regions.” At the meeting the intention was confirmed to develop cooperation in all areas in the bilateral format, as well as within the CIS, the CSTO, the EurAsEC, the SCO and other international formats, including those created by Russia and Tajikistan. In this regard, Medvedev recalled the four-party summit with the participation of Afghanistan and Pakistan, also held in Dushanbe.
