Police have discovered the body of a 14-year-old girl who was reported missing in the town of Vladimir, some 180 kilometers from Moscow, on Saturday, a police statement said.
The police found the body in the forest, about one kilometer away from the girl’s home, late on Saturday afternoon, the statement said.
Investigators believe the girl may have been raped before being strangled.
Last week, a 10-year-old girl was raped and strangled in the North Caucasus city of Pyatigorsk. A 40-year-old man arrested over the case has pleaded guilty.
The same man was arrested two weeks earlier in Pyatigorsk after an 18-year-olg girl told police he had raped her. He was released shortly afterwards over a lack of evidence.
Prosecutors have launched a probe against an investigator who released the suspect.
