PYONGYANG, July 28 (Itar-Tass) — Protracted torrential rains have inflicted heavy damage on the economy in many parts of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, the Korean Central News Agency /KCNA/ said Thursday.
The report mentioned the destruction of thousands of dwelling houses and hundreds of industrial installations, as well as many schools and public buildings.
Rainfall varied from 100 mm to 500 mm Thursday in the provinces of Hwanghae-namdo, which is washed by the Yellow Sea in the West, and Hwanghae-pukdo, which borders Pyongyang.
KCNA also said the damage sustained by agricultural producers is quite considerable, too.
The rains have affected 36,000 hectares of farm fields in Hwanghae-namdo, and 20,000 hectares of that number were inundated completely.
The capital Pyongyang is also trapped by the zone of protracted heavy showers.
