SIMFEROPOL, August 28 (Itar-Tass) —— Two people drowned and another eight went missing in the rough seas in the Crimea this weekend, the Crimean Emergency Situations Ministry said.
Most of the accidents happened in Sudak, the ministry said. A 13-year-old boy from Moscow went swimming while his parents were sunbathing. A big wave hit the teenager, and he drowned.
Waves threw a 26-year-old resident of the Crimea on the rocks near the town of Partenit. The throw was lethal.
Lifeguards are concerned about the carelessness of swimmers. Many people go swimming on the last days of summer although a storm is on. Two were rescued from surfboards, and plenty of people were carried away from the shore on swimming mattresses.
No less than eight people went missing on August 27. A 27-year-old Muscovite disappeared as he dived under a big wave in Novy Svet. Rescuers searched the shore on Saturday and continued their search on Sunday.
The resident of Belaya Tserkov who went diving near Pribrezhnoye in the Sudak area, disappeared 100 meters away from the shore. He is still missing.
The ministry said that the sea would remain rough until the end of August.
