Two suspected militants were killed in Russia’s North Caucasus republic of Kabardino-Balkaria on Saturday, a local police source said.
“Security forces… found a militants’ shelter, with six explosive devices and a number of components for their manufacture,” the spokesman said adding that not far from the shelter they noticed two people trying to escape. They called for a helicopter and the suspected militants were shot from it.
Later, two bodies of the suspects, who were armed, had been found.
The suspected militants are being identified.
More than a decade after the end of a war against separatists in Russia’s North Caucasus republic of Chechnya, Russian security forces continue to fight militants in other regions in the area besides Chechnya, including Kabardino-Balkaria, Ingushetia, Dagestan, and North Ossetia. Frequent attacks are staged on security forces, police and civilians.
