Two teens nabbed in attempt to burn down lawmaker’s reception room

MOSCOW, September 3 (Itar-Tass) — Two teenagers in uniforms of police officers were nabbed in Nizhny Novgorod in an attempt to set fire to a reception room of a member of the regional legislative assembly, Itar-Tass learnt on Saturday at the press centre of the Russian Interior Ministry.

“Two teenagers were detained on the night of August 31 in Nizhny Novgorod by officers of the Centre on Countering Extremism and a special centre of the regional branch of the Russian Interior Ministry in an attempt to set fire to a reception room of a member of the regional legislative assembly and a member of a political party,” the ministry described. “They wore uniforms of police officers at the time of detention.”

A Tass source specified that two incendiary bottles, components for making explosives and extremist literature were found and seized at the place of the incident and during a search at a flat, leased by the detainees.

The teenagers said that they had planned to film videos and place provocative clips in Internet with their participation in the role of policemen. Youngsters did not conceal their commitment to ideas of radical, extremist and nationalist groups.

“According to available information, they deliberately arrived in Nizhny Novgorod to commit arsons and explosions as well as assassination of an executive of the Centre on Countering Extremism in the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the Interior Mininstry,” the Interior Ministry press centre reported.

A criminal case was instituted against the detainees under the article “Hooliganism” of the Russian Criminal Code. They were arrested on a court ruling.
