A U.S. Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet naval fighter jet crashed near an airbase in central California, killing the two-men crew, the Los Angeles Times reported citing Navy officials.
The aircraft crashed on Wednesday during a routine training flight a half-mile from Naval Air Station Lemoore in the San Joaquin Valley.
No one on the ground was injured and emergency crews are working at the scene of the crash to establish the cause of the accident, the paper said.
Super Hornet is the latest version of the F/A-18 fighter series.
The aircraft, manufactured by Boeing, entered service with the United States Navy in 1999, replacing the F-14 Tomcat since 2006, and serves alongside the original Hornet.
