Dmitry Ostrovenko, deputy of the ruling United Russia party, who on early Friday smashed his Porshe Cayene into three cars killing a 23-year-old student in the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don, has filed a statement of resignation, spokesman for the city council said.
Investigators say Ostrovenko, 38, drove his car while drunk. His Porsche pulled student Igor Verbenko’s VAZ 2106 car several dozen meters before crashing into two other cars.
Criminal case has been opened against Ostrovenko. If the deputy is proven guilty, he may be put behind bars for up to 7 years.
